Demolition For a Kitchen Remodel

Before you can start remodeling your kitchen, there is always a requirement for some demolition. With respect to the extent of renovation in your project, the demolition can mean just removing the countertops or dismantling the whole room completely. But for some, this thing can easily get out of hands. You need to be smart here and actually disassemble your room instead of demolishing it.

First of all, if you need to remove any electrical outlets or plumbing, you should turn them off as a safety measure. Unknowingly coming in contact with an electric line can be painful, if not lethal. Whereas if you accidentally break a water line, it can be a real pain to sort out the mess caused.

Avoid damaging something important while demolishing to avoid unnecessary expenses. If you want to break everything else in your kitchen but not the floor, then you should cover it up. Hence it is important to protect the items you want to keep in your kitchen unchanged.

If there are any fixtures in your kitchen that you wish to keep like knobs, faucets, etc. then you should remove them in advance and put them away in a safe place. This is to avoid ending up breaking your favorite lighting by accident while taking a swing with the hammer.

All the moldings and trim of your kitchen can usually be re-used so you can remove them now. Then you can concentrate on removing the countertops without any fear of chipping. You need to have someone helping you out while removing the countertops in case you are doing this all on your own.

When removing the base cabinets, it is advisable to start by removing the moving parts first like drawers, etc. Then it is time to remove screws if any that may be holding the cabinets to the walls. Once you've detached the cabinets from the walls, separate one cabinet from the other. The technique is the same as earlier by removing the screws which are holding them to each other.

Get some extra help when you start dismantling the wall cabinets. In this case, however you start the other way around by first removing any screws that might be connecting the cabinets to each other. And then you go on to remove the screws holding them to the walls. It's the safest way of removing each cabinet on an individual basis.

Once you are done with that, start removing the plaster or just patch the areas and prepare them for the new installments. Hence by having a more sensible approach to demolition, you can avoid causing unwanted damage. When you've finished all of these tasks you will be almost ready to begin the remodeling of your kitchen.

By using the above mentioned techniques, you can do the demolition work in a very safe way which proves that kitchen demolitions need not necessarily be a hassle. All you need to do is prepare a good demolition plan, which is smart as well as efficient and which prevents any loss or damage.
