Explore – Dream – Discover

Mark Twain once said, "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." The opportunity to travel will allow you to do exactly that. To have the chance to both further your life education, whilst simultaneously exploring new cultures and experiences in foreign surroundings will enrich your life experience and help you leap into the real world with enthusiasm and the desire for knowledge.

As students, we are constantly being told that the world is our front page, and we have the responsibility to engage with audiences internationally. And yet, they expect us to learn through the pages of a textbook, written by people who have actually gone out into the world and lived. We are trapped behind a window, with the real world on the other side. We can see it, we can hear it, but we can't feel it, we cannot change it. We cannot live it.

They say that with travel, comes the death to bigotry and narrow-mindedness. Think about the adventure you've only read in books. Peter Pan told us to fly towards the second star to the right and straight on till morning. To travel the world means to dive head first into the rich cultures of a universe you never knew existed. Travel is the last piece of magic in the world. Travel allows us to return back to our childlike wonder, where skepticism is a foreign language, and uncertainty is celebrated. Who said that you have to be trapped in the routines of a strict, regimented world. Who said life has to be a series of familiar events.

Who told you that its time to start thinking about the future. Tell me, who told you its time to grow up. Hear me loud and clear. screw that.

Travel will allow you to discover a world outside the pages of a textbook, and experience first hand the type of career path you wish to take. While the fear of the unknown and the loneliness one feels when you're separated from friends, family and the normality of everyday life is to be expected, having an travel experience will help you grow stronger as a person who has been given the opportunity to be better equipped for the realities of the real world outside the walls of a life just 'given' to us. I challenge you all, go out there and grab it yourself.

So dare to explore the unknown. Dream about a happily ever after, and discover life.
