4 Types Of Kitchen Faucets

Are you planning on buying kitchen faucets? Here are some of the most common types:

Ball

You identify the faucets by their single handle that moves over a rounded metal ball that easily shifts and spins thus creating different water flows and temperatures. The ball has chambers and spring loaded rubber seals. The handle rotates easily allowing you an exact mix of hot and cold water. It’s good to note that these faucets don’t have washers. Due to the many parts in these faucets, they tend to leak more than other washerless faucets such as disc and cartridge.

Disc

Just like the most modern kitchen faucets, disc faucets have a single handle that controls temperature and water flow. These faucets function through the use of two discs within the valve that open and close in order to control the flow of hot and cold water.

To control the water temperature you should do so using the side-to-side rotation of the handle. The cool thing with disc faucets is that they are of high quality and very reliable. Since they don’t have many parts they don’t leak a lot.

Cartridge

There are two main types of cartridge faucets: one and two handle faucets. A single handle faucet operates in an up/down motion to adjust water volume and left/right motion to adjust the temperature.

From outside, a double handle cartridge faucet is identical to a compression washer faucet. You can tell the difference by noting how the handle feels when used. A compression faucet requires you to tighten down the washer in order to close water flow while a cartridge faucet requires smooth and consistent action to close water flow. When you move the faucet for just ½ turn you are able to move the handle from on to off position.

Compression

They have been around for a very long time. They are known as compression faucets as they work through compression of a washer against a valve seat which is usually at the base of the faucet. The cool thing with them is that they have separate knobs for hot and cold water. While they are great to have, they tend to develop leaks every now and then.

Conclusion

These are some of the most common types of kitchen faucets that you will come across. As rule of thumb you should only buy the kitchen faucets from a reputable store.
