A clogged drain can be incredibly frustrating to fix – it’s time-consuming and can produce some pretty unpleasant results.

Although sometimes you can get away with using a plunger on others you’ll need something a little more heavy duty like a drain unblocker.

One Mrs Hinch fan has come to the DIY rescue though, sharing a handy hack to clean them with ease.

She shared the video to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group on Facebook and demonstrated how to cut the cable ties so that they can easily hook around whatever it is that’s clogging the drain.

She made small incisions in the cable tie with scissors

In the video, she already has two cable ties joined together and demonstrates making small diagonal slits on both sides of the plastic.

She then twists it so that the slits open slightly – the hooks will catch onto anything gross in your drain.

Then all she does is feed the plastic into the plug hole – making sure to keep hold of the end – and wiggles it side to side a little before pulling out a load of matted hair and dirt.

And fed the plastic into the drain twisting as she went

And out came a load of hair

She said: “Don’t buy expensive cleaning products/ tools to clean blocked plug holes, a couple of cheap cable ties easily do the job.

“Put 2 cable ties together and cut diagonal slits on each side of the tie, and hey ho job done.”

One person said: “Amazing idea. Will def be trying this. Thanks for sharing!”

A third also added: “I didn’t think watching hair come out a plug hole would be so satisfying.”

“I love this idea I tried it today on my bathroom sink thinking nothing would come up (because I wasn’t expecting anything in there) but gave it a go and omg the hair that came up thanks for this tip you have probably prevented a blocked sink” said a fourth said.
